I dont think its the afkers that are causing it.....at the 2nd event this morning (6am est) we had LOADS of afkers in the district I was in....and NO LAG AT ALL.
yet at the 3rd one, where there was only a handful of afkers in our district we had insane lag and only 1/3 the amount of people in the district at that time.... no idea about what's going on, however, it doesnt paint a good picture for gw future. |

Boring, these things happen, last year I missed all hats due to the lag. Live with it or stop playing and free some bandwidth, I'm still having fun in guild wars so I'm still playing it. Keep those hats unique, if not a.net should also start remaking all the hats from the festivals, the collectors editions glows and so on.
They are a gift to us the community, so yeah sometimes it goes wrong, but they are a bonus anyway. So start playing the game and log off from this board, I'll do the same Have fun, thats priceless. |

If the servers were unable to save state, then there's no way for them to know who lost what, therefore there's no way to fairly compensate. |

Is it true that back in the early days of guild wars there was a server roll back and the material prices were reset because someone in my guild said there was and got 1000s of ectos at 100g each.

I didn't have a single issue with lag during the entire event, even at peak times. I am quite sure ISP is to blame for most lag experienced. As for the OP, this can occur when both your ISP and Anet's glitch together, causing you to still be able to play while they continually try to handshake, and then when they ultimately fail, you drop for good, but everything you did since last move (I believe GW saves your status everytime you go through a portal or map travel, and when you exit) is gone since the state was never recorded since the last save. Therefore, if you spent time in one zone for three hours, and the server communication failed during the last hour, you would lose all your progress from the three hours. It happened to me when I was in college a couple times due to high server overload on both my colleges server (more common) and ANets (less common).
It sucks but luckily there is more than one event, and could be salvaged. Its a risk and disadvantage of playing an online game. If it were an off-line game, your hardware could die on you at any moment. Same thing. |

Regardless of whether or not anyone thinks it creates lag, AFKers probably do. Tons of them attached to the server, gifts spawning for them and then just sitting there until the timer runs out and picks them up. It makes it annoying for other players who have to keep trying for a high numbered district because the others are full of AFKers.
Either show up for the event (that is every 3 RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing hours) or quit crying and go without. Quote:

Not so much 'read it anywhere' as 'experienced it' if you were here when that took place, Fril, it was an old rollback. I was here at the time, so I remember. It's possible there are old threads around that discuss what went on, but couldn't find it at the moment.
For this year's Wintersday Finale, mostly all the people in our district complained of lagg or being 'stuck'. It took forever to get to the present you were picking up, which prompted someone to say that GW was crashing due to the servers not being able to handle everyone's simultaneous pick-up of a present. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but seems reasonable. Also, I read in another thread that someone posted a GW update regarding festival hats: Quote:
